I am not a veterinarian and the following is what I use to treat my
dogs. Use the following at your on risk. I have been using the
following methods for the past 10 years.

Heart worm prevention:

Ivomec 1% solution for cattle: Ivermectin is found in Heartgard, Ivomec, and Eqvalan.
Ivermectin is used for the elimination of demodectic, sarcoptic, Otodectic, and Cheyletiella
mites in dogs. Ivermectin has also been used to treat Capillaria aerophila and the
prevention of heart worms. Ivermectin has shown to be very effective against heart worm
infection when 1 year monthly prophylactic dosing is started as late as 4 months after
infection.

The dosage of Ivomec 1% varies by individuals. Some of the recommendations are .27 ml
for a 50-100 lb dog, 1/10 ml (cc) per 20 lbs, ¼ ml for 50-80 lb dog, or 1 ml for dog up to 80
lbs. Or you can purchase Zemecterin Gold horse wormer and give an adult dog one click on
the applicator.

I give my adult beagles 1 click of Zemecterin Gold monthly.

Worms:

For the removal and control of mature infections of large strongles, pinworms, large
roundworms, and small strongyles in dogs and puppies we use Pyrantel Pamoate. We give
1 cc per 10 pounds every 3 months. If worms are seen we give the same dosage for three
consecutive days (per Vet). We have been using Pyrantel Pamoate for the past several
years and really like it. It is little more expensive but well worth it.  We purchase a quart (or
946 ml) of Liqui-Care P at
www.horse.com for $31.94.

We also have been using Panacur C Canine Dewormer. Comes with three packages to put
on your dogs food for three consecutive days. It eliminates hookworms, roundworms,
tapeworms (Taeniid Tapeworms and Taenia Tapeworms), and whipworms all in one
treatment. We purchase Panacur C from
www.dog.com (2 Gram packages for 20 lb dog)
for $6.79.

Infection or With a Very Wormy dog

Most of the time if a dog has a serious case of worms the Vet usually prescribes antibiotics
along with a dewormer. Many times if a dog starts loosing weight due to worms, I highly
recommend giving antibiotics for 10 days. We give Amoxicillin. Amoxicillin can be purchase
without a prescription at
www.huntsmart.com (HuntSmart is better known as Nite Lite
Magazine) (Amoxicillin at huntsmart is called Fish Mox and is the same as dog/human
antibiotics) for $19.99 for 100 capsules.

Fleas and Ticks

In the past I used to battle with fleas and ticks all summer. I continuously bought products
from Wal-mart and Lowes and none of them ever worked. About 4 years ago I was
introduced to Frontline Flea and Tick spray. I highly recommend it. Since I started using it, I
have not seen a sign of a flea or tick. I cut the recommended dosage in half and it works
great.

Frontline also works for preventing/treating mange and ear mites. For treating mange treat
them every three weeks for 3 doses. For ear mites, I spray a half a pump into each ear. We
buy our Front line at
www.jefferspet.com

We have also been trying the following and is working so far: Bayers Tree and Shrub found
at your local Lowes. We put 1 1/2 cc on the back of the dogs neck once a month. Dogs
bigger than beagles we use 2 cc once a month.

Coccidia (Coccidiosis)

Coccidia are small protozoans (one-celled organisms) that multiply in the intestinal tracts of
dogs. Most commonly in dogs 6 months or younger due to the immune system not being
fully developed. As a puppy ages, he tends to develop a natural immunity to the effects of
coccidia. As an adult he may have coccidia in his intestines and never experience illness.

Feces spread coccidia. Puppy’s can come in contact with Coccidia from the mother or
from grooming (licking). This is a common parasite and is not necessarily a sign of poor
care or Kennel. It usually takes 13 days from the time of exposure to the onset of the illness.
So if you buy a pup and he is diagnosed with Coccidia with in 13 days of your possession,
he more than likely had Coccidia before you got him. If it is after 13 days, he probably came
into contact with Coccidia after you got him.

Signs of a dog with Coccidia: Diarrhea (mild or severe with/without blood and mucous),
vomiting, not eating, dehydrated, weak, and could die if not treated. Severe cases the dog
will look like a skeleton with fur on him.

I use a prevention treatment on all my pups about every two to three weeks until 6 months
old. I give them Di-Methox 12.5% solution mixed with Dyne. Di-methox 12.5% is the exact
same thing as Albon 12.5%, but is much cheaper. Dyne is a high calorie liquid dietary
supplement that will help increase the pups energy much quicker. I mix 5 ounces of Dyne to
4 ounces of Di-Methox 12.5%. This mixture produces the same thing you will get from the
vet called Albon 5%, but will be getting it without a prescription and at a much cheaper
price. For prevention I give 2.5cc or 1/2 teaspoon per 5 pounds (5 cc/1 teaspoon per 10
pounds) by mouth once a day for 5 days.  If a pup has the coccidia he must be treated for
14 to 21 days by giving the same dosage as above. We purchase the Dyne at
www.
jefferspet.com (prices are $8.95 for 16oz, $12.95 for 32oz, or $39.95 for 1 gallon). We
purchase the Di-Methox 12.5% at
www.jefferslivestock.com for $36.95 for 1 gallon.

Vaccines:

We vaccinated our puppies with 7-way at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, and again at 14 weeks. All
dogs will receive a buster shot once a year. 7-way protects against Distemper, Adenovirus
Type 2, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and both types of Leptos. There are several
places you can buy them. I usually by them from
www.jefferspet.com.

HOT SPOTS OR SKIN IRRITATIONS (WITH HAIR LOSS):

For Hot Spots and skin irritations that cause dogs to loose hair we use Betadine. It works
most of the time. Betadine is Cheap (under $15) and a bottle will last you for a long time.
We usually apply the Betadine for 3 days. We purchase the Betadine at
www.horse.com.

We also use Fungasol Shampoo (Made for Horses). It clears up any skin and hair
conditions that is caused by bacteria and fungus. We purchase the shampoo from
www.
horse.com. Quart cost $8.95 or a gallon for $21.95

KENNEL COUGH:

For Kennel cough we use Tetracycline 250 mg. We give 1 capsule per day for 10 days.
During the coughing time we also give them Robitussin Cough Syrup using the children
dosage (advised by VET). We usually purchase the Tetracycline (made for fish but is the
same as dog/human antibiotics) from
www.huntsmart.com for $15.99 for 60 capsules.
